B.A.D. founder, Briana Augustus, refers to herself as “a creator with many hats, a traveler of many paths” – and she has a diverse body of work to show for it. In addition to producing art-commissioned pieces and participating in collaborative multimedia pieces, she remains devoted to her painting, drawing, poetry, and other creative projects.
With years of working on the technical side of theater, she progressed on to gain experience working on several student shorts in various capacities – from script supervisor, to grip, to editor. After earning her B.A. in Communications and Film/Video Production from the University of Memphis in Tennessee, Briana made her way back to her hometown of New Orleans. As a creative individual, she could hardly stick with a single creative outlet so, in addition to filmmaking, she branched out to develop her skills working as an Events and Portrait Photographer, Website Designer, Digital Content Creator, Videographer, Social Media Marketing Consultant and Online Marketing Director.
The first grand art-self discovery moment for Briana came circa 2009 when she wrote "My art is my journey" and spoke her passion into a motion to be accomplished by herself in a matter of time. Both with and without the foggiest ideas, Briana paved her own way into multimedia artistry, and in 2011, she founded BRIANA AUGUSTUS DESIGN (B.A.D.). From the start, B.A.D. offered client services such as website design, event photography, videography and digital marketing services, working primarily as a freelance photographer, videographer, website and graphic designer. As “a creator with many hats, a traveler of many paths,” Briana has a uniquely blended background, a curious mind, and a diverse body of work. Other hats Briana wears include those of a Writer, Poet, Painter. and for a time, Stand-Up Comedian & Improv Performer.
After her sketchy comedy debut in 2016, she helped co-found an African-American female centric comedy collective and spent years co-hosting The XX Comedy Show with Xander Bilyk - a weekly comedy and poetry showcase. You may find some of her poetry work published in the 2020 issue of Tangerine Zine, Beyond June. Briana currently coordinates media production full-time for an independent agency of the state and, in her spare time, she writes, participates in collaborative art/community projects, and enjoys producing paintings, graphic art designs, mixed media projects, and art-commissioned pieces.
